Come back, Gamelan Festival held

Community Gayam 16 will hold back in Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival in July 2010 at 16-18 followed by a number of artists and gamelan lovers from 34 countries.

According to General Manager of Community Gayam 16 Setyaji Dewanto, in Yogyakarta, Tuesday, 'Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival' (YFG) to-15 that carries the theme 'Gamelan Anytime' will be held at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY).

He said YGF an annual event organized by the Community Gayam 16 and TBY. "Therefore, all activities in this festival series held at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta," he said.

Setyaji said YGF 2010 musical inspired by the popularity of specific types of inflatable South Africa, vuvuzela during World Cup 2010 soccer championships took place.

"If the South Africans managed to lift vuvuzela to the international arena, what about Indonesia?," He said.

According to him, YGF depart from the concern to make musical instruments of the gamelan as familiar around the world.

"One of the typical Indonesian musical instrument containing a high philosophical value is the gamelan. We believe our goal will be achieved," he said.

He said the gamelan must be able to adapt with the times. "The development of gamelan over time YGF positive response by participants so far," he said.

One of the participants are able to adapt well to the gamelan, according to Rene Lysloff he is from California, USA. "Gamelan music played electronic music combined with ditekuninya," he said.

YGF was first held in 1995 which pioneered the late Sapto Raharjo. In 2010 a second festival without the presence of Sapto Raharjo, who died in 2009.
